Time:    1:00 pm AEST

What to Expect: This webinar will be of interest to law students in their penultimate or final year of study and who are interested in gaining an understanding of what is needed regarding admission to legal practice.  During the session, you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the Bond GDLP program.

Special Presentation: As part of this session, we are excited to have Bond Alumna, Taryn Lovegrove, who completed both her Juris Doctor and GDLP at Bond University, presenting on "Athletes as Entrepreneurs: Protecting their Personal Brand." Taryn, now a Senior Associate at Davies Collison Cave, will discuss the steps many athletes have taken to protect their Intellectual Property, allowing them to monetize their brand.

Synopsis: In the competitive world of sports, where every athlete aims to surpass their opponents, distinguishing oneself goes beyond physical skill. It requires building a powerful and memorable personal brand. With the growing influence of social media and digital marketing, athletes are able to make big moves in the business world by using their personal brand to create corporate empires, allowing the athlete to generate significant revenue off the field. This is all made possible because of Intellectual Property Rights.

About Taryn Lovegrove: Taryn is a Senior Associate at Davies Collison Cave, a specialist International Intellectual Property firm. Taryn practices in all areas of trademark law including brand protection strategies, use and registration clearance searches, national and international applications, prosecutions, oppositions, non-use applications and infringements.

Taryn also advises on disputes relating to Australian Consumer Law and common law. Having assisted in the protection and management of small, large and well know trademark portfolios, both nationally and internationally, Taryn has extensive experience in assisting clients at all stages of development. With a business degree specialising in finance and a Juris Doctor degree, Taryn’s education has armed her with a practical understanding of businesses and an ability to tailor advice to the needs of businesses of all sizes.

Before joining Davies Collison Cave, Taryn worked at Minter Ellison as an Associate managing their intellectual property practice group and advising clients on brand protection and intellectual property matters on a national and international scale. Taryn spent over 2 years on a part time secondment at the organising committee for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. During this time, Taryn assisted in running the brand protection functional area, as well as providing general commercial advice to the legal functional area.
