Brisbane Olympics under the microscope

bne
The topic up for discussion is 'passing the torch to Brisbane: Will the Olympic flame burn bright?'

Bond University will be visited by Olympic royalty at the next Bond Business Leaders Forum on June 13.

Key organiser and Associate Dean - External Engagement at the Bond Business School, Dr Lisa Gowthorp, said securing Australia’s Olympics boss, Ian Chesterman, reflected the importance business and community leaders placed on the regular forum.

A teacher of sport management, Dr Gowthorp said the forum was designed to showcase a wide range of industries, and the July Games were at the forefront of business discussions.

She said the forums exposed students to a range of diverse people and ideas, this time raising issues surrounding the Olympic Games and Brisbane 2032.

Mr Chesterman is President of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC).

He previously served as a Vice President of the AOC, and most recently the Chef de Mission of the Australian team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Also speaking is former Wallabies player, coach and sports administrator Pat Howard, high-level executive coaching administrator Elia Hill and, via video, Olympic and Commonwealth sprinting bronze medallist Patrick Johnson.

Dr Gowthorp, who is also Chair of UniSport Australia, said the relaxed style of the event always opened the forum up to questions from the audience.

She expected the state and cost of hosting the 2032 Olympic Games would be raised.
