The Floorplan with Dr Libby Sander - Episode 1

Dr Libby Sander, MBA Director and Assistant Professor of Organisational Behaviour at Bond University, has today launched The Floorplan - a podcast about the future of work.

The Floorplan will be a thorough and sometimes funny exploration of our attempts to navigate the modern workplace.

Co-hosted by Matt Webber from the Bond Newsroom, the podcast will look at current trends in organisational behaviour and the fascinating science that inspires them.

Borrowing from case studies and ground-breaking research, The Floorplan will attempt to uncover what individuals and organisations can do to make the workplace experience better for everyone.

Dr Sander says the fact most employees feel underwhelmed by their workplace creates the perfect environment for a podcast.

“Steven Spielberg says he wakes up so excited that he can’t eat breakfast but for most of us, work is far less fulfilling,” she says.

“The way we design jobs and where we expect people to perform can be dull at best and dehumanising at worst.”

“Only 13% of workers worldwide are engaged, sociopathic leadership is one of the hottest topics trending in

management research, and 61% of workers report that work-related stress makes them physically sick.”

The first episode of The Floorplan ponders the covid pandemic as 'the great workplace disruptor' and asks if there will ever be any turning back for traditional office work now we've had a taste of true workplace flexibility.

Also, Dr Sander talks to Alice Drew about her role as Head of Place Futures at Lendlease. What does a global corporate giant see in its workplace crystal ball?

In later episodes Dr Sander and Matt will discuss the effectiveness - or otherwise - of 'cult' workplace environments. They’ll also delve into the darker side of work when they dig into toxic workplace behaviour and sociopathic management.
