Lachlan Reberger is the face of the new workforce.
The 21-year-old graduated from Bond University last week and has barely even met his ANZ work colleagues.
After finishing his Actuarial Science degree, the Vice-Chancellorâs Elite Scholarship student landed a role at ANZ but was there only a month before COVID-19 forced staff to work from home.
âIâm looking forward to getting back in the office and I canât wait to get back and meet my team in person instead of all these online conversations,â Mr Reberger said.
âNow Iâm doing full-time work, reality has hit that Iâve finished university.
âMum was really excited to come and watch me graduate.â
Mr Reberger, who opens the bowling for Runaway Bay, said Bond prepared him for the rapid workforce changes wrought by the pandemic.
âItâs been a challenge working from home,â he said.
âWhen you are put into an environment you havenât been in before, itâs hard, because there is lots to learn but you arenât getting the hands-on experience you normally would face-to
face.
âANZ has been a really good experience so far though.
âI was doing small business loans and now Iâm moving into the asset finance team, doing loans for cars, equipment, trucks, jets and helicopters.
âI didnât realise until I talked to people at ANZ in the interview, but they were looking for different sales experience.
âI got that through a Bond internship at Sunland Group in the sales team which gave me commercial sales experience and helped get the job at ANZ.â
Bond University held graduation ceremonies last week, adhering to strict social distancing measures.
