Bull Sharks receive wake-up call against Norths

Rhys Sherrif high five
Rhys Sherrif is one player who gave it his all.

The Bull Sharks Premier Men had some soul searching to do after producing their worst performance of the season in a loss to Norths at The Canal.

It was better news for Colts 1 who set-up a victory with a strong start.

Bond v Norths at The Canal.

Premier Men

Bull Sharks lost 38-21.

Where was it lost:

It was a limp performance and our worst of the season. We were out muscled, out thought and outperformed. Some changes to personnel in key positions meant our set piece were at its worst for the entire year, hopefully some returning players can fix that this weekend.

The highlight:

No highlight, nothing but lowlights. It was a real wake up call for the club, all the three senior men’s teams lost.

What made you happy:

Colts 1 played well, against a bit of adversity, it shows some great development in the club.

The work to do:

The attitude towards playing in Premier Grade football needs a lot of work.

Trademark Player:

Rhys Sheriff came on at half time and played very well in the second half.

Premier Women

Norths forfeited.

Colts 1

Bull Sharks won 21-17.

Where it was won:

We set up the win in the first 15 minutes when we were able to score 21 points through maul and wide attack. We dug in at the end with some great defence and a tackle penalty to Nikotimo Matewai to hold on and win the game.

The highlight:

Our scrum-maul and goal line defence were outstanding, we held Norths out a number of times, an area where they have had success all season,

What made you happy:

I was pleased with our ability to hang on and keep fighting, we have been close a number of times this season and have come up short. To defend hard with a few players off the field with yellow cards showed great character.

Bull Sharks Rugby:

We have a physical pack and to dominate in the tight work and set piece and score a couple of maul tries was pleasing, assistant coach Stuart Morrison and director of coaching Grant Anderson have been working hard in those areas in which we were not great at earlier in the season.

The work to do:

Discipline is the big one. Four yellow cards is not the standard, two were very tough calls but the other two were justified and we have to better with our tackle height.

Trademark player:

Josh Horua at 12 was a rock in the midfield, he also got a couple of tackle penalties to get us out of trouble.
