Each week on the Club Corner we will profile one of Bond University's social sport clubs.
This week the spotlight is on the Cricket Club!
What is the Bond Cricket Club
The Bond Cricket Club aims to give anyone who is interested the chance to play cricket. We are still a relatively new club, having only officially started in the May last year, but in that time, we have developed a community of cricket lovers with a wide range of abilities. We started out as a bunch of primarily medicine students who had come to university wanting to play cricket but found that although the university had two cricket nets, there was no active cricket club. Last year we competed at UniSport Nationals and now we currently play in Cricket Gold Coast’s 4th grade competition,

Greatest achievement
Aside from getting a team together to compete last year, our greatest achievement we’ve had so far was our Round 17 win in the 4th grade competition against Mudgeeraba. Mudgeeraba batted first and scored an impressive 6/257 in their innings; at that point in the competition, no team had successfully chased a score that high. We went on to bat and our opening batsman, Evan Poon, scored an incredible 156*, alongside fellow opener Nick Arthur, who scored 52, and because of their incredible batting performances, we won the game 4/260, with six overs left to spare! That game definitely takes the cake for best game we played all season.
Why join Bond Cricket Club?
Everyone is welcome to join us. Whether you want to train and compete seriously in UniGames, train socially with us, or just join a community of cricket lovers to watch games with, we’re here for you. We’re especially wanting to get more women involved in the club, as we have some exciting opportunities coming up, such as sending a women’s team to UniGames, and joining Cricket Gold Coast’s social women’s competition later this year. If you’re wanting to sign up but you have never played before we encourage you to join us and come down to an open training session.
One word to describe Bond Cricket Club?
COMMUNITY
Club Culture Champions

Harry, our club president, goes above and beyond for all of us, organising everything so that we can train and compete as a club. Team captain, Aadit, brings the laughs and energy to our club. Adel, our club secretary, always comes and supports us at games, and she is working hard to create opportunities at our club for women who are interested in playing cricket, with the goal of representing Bond in a women’s team before she graduates.
Some of our most committed players, Evan, Harish, Nick, and Riley are dedicated to our club and are always willing to help others!
Fun Traditions and Rivalries
Group Bake - After games, we have a tradition of eating baked goods together, whether we’ve won or lost. It's something to look forward to at the end of a game, regardless of the outcome, being able to boost our spirits with sugar!
Fiercest Rival? Although we haven’t been around as a club long enough yet to develop any serious rivalries, we are in the process of organising a series against Griffith Uni’s cricket club, which we hope will turn into a fierce-but-fun annual clash.
