The Bull Sharks got their premiership defence underway with a convincing win over Sunnybank in the Challenge Cup.
Bull Sharks v Sunnybank Green at Bond Pirates
Bull Sharks won 52-22
The opposition
Sunnybank are a really good team, they have players with Super W experience and like every team in the competition they are bigger than us, and they tried to dominate us.
What it means
It was a big step forward for the girls considering they lost heavily to Wests the week before. It is a new side, and they are developing a better understanding of how we want to play. They were certainly able to execute their skills better than the week before.
The standout
Zara Colless: Zara is a Masters student at Bond. She came in at No.10 and was able to guide the side around the park well.
What made you happy
There are a lot of new players in the group this year, some are quite young, and they haven’t had that experience in Premier Rugby.
We were able to give some fringe players, girls from the Bond Pirates, some valuable experience. Bailee Kovarik on the wing and Eden Milton at fullback were very good for us and will gain a lot from that exposure to the premier level.
Bull Sharks Footy
Our forwards led the way. They were able to win their own ball which laid the platform for our attack. Paris Mohr in particular was very good for us.
The final word
The Super W season ends this coming weekend, and we’ll welcome back some of our biggest names. While that will no doubt make us stronger, some new players have made the most of their opportunity and won’t give up their positions easily. It has been great for our group that we have been able to blood some new players, and that increased depth will be invaluable as the season wears on.
