Bond University business student Kye Robinson has placed fourth in the 18-19 years category of the World Triathlon Age-Group Championships in Pontevedra, Spain.

Robinson clocked the fastest time in the run leg, was fourth in the bike leg and seventh in the swim, finishing in an overall time of 2:14:02.

His selection to represent Australia at the world championships followed a gruelling qualifying process and seven-day-a-week training schedule.

“There are qualifying events around Australia and then at the end of the season whoever has the most points is eligible to race for Australia in their age group,” Robinson said.

“On Monday (training) would be a 15km run, then I also go to the gym, and Tuesday I would do a 4km swim and ride for about an hour.

“Wednesday would be another ride and swim, and Thursday would be a hard run for 15-16km.

“Saturday would be a long ride - 80km - then a run, and Sunday would be a swim.”

Robinson is a talented athlete who had a passion for multiple sports including basketball and AFL before concentrating on triathlon.

“When I was younger I did every sport,” he said. “My dad told me to choose between triathlon or AFL and I picked triathlon.”

Away from sport, Robinson is about to finish his first year of a Bachelor of Business.

“I like the small class size, and the facilities, the campus. That’s what I’ve found so far,” he said.
