BUHMUN: Unlocking opportunities

BUHMUN aims to ignite a passion for global change in high school students, inspiring them to explore further studies in fields such as international relations, law, and journalism. Through engaging in discussions and real-world problem-solving, BUHMUN offers a glimpse into the dynamic learning environment at Bond University. Students who participate may find themselves drawn to the university’s programs, including a Bachelor of International Relations, a double degree in International Relations and Law, or Journalism. Within these courses, a range of enriching extracurricular opportunities and programs are available to equip students with the skills necessary for a global-minded career.

Bond's International Summitry Program

A program available for select students studying international relations at Bond:

The International Summitry Program at Bond University is an exclusive program that equips students with the skills to navigate global diplomacy through theoretical study and hands-on simulations. Students explore the history, significance and impact of international summits while developing critical negotiation, communication, and strategic thinking abilities. Students then bridge theory to practice by planning and running the Bond University High School Model United Nations 2025, gaining real-world experience in diplomacy and global governance. As part of the program, selected students also have the opportunity to compete at the Japan English Model United Nations in Japan or the World International Model United Nations in New York City.

  • Sienna Grubb

    Secretary General

My favourite part of ISP is I get to practice being someone who I hope to be in the future. Through this subject, I’ve had the opportunity to engage with professionals in the international relations field, take the lead in organising a Model United Nations conference for high school students, and actively apply my diplomatic skills in both domestic and international contexts.

  • Tehgan Gee

    President of the General Assembly

One of my favourite aspects of ISP is having the opportunity to guide high school students who share the same passion for diplomacy and international affairs that inspired me during my own high school years through BUHMUN.

  • Saxon McGregor

    Under Secretary General (Conference Management)

I couldn’t have learnt how to organise a conference or build consensus during high-stakes diplomatic engagements by taking an exam or reading a textbook. Through the International Summitry Program, I’ve picked it all up by doing and being mentored by experts and seasoned practitioners.

  • Kenina Murtagh

    Conference Management Member

The International Summitry Program (ISP) offers a collaborative environment where I can work alongside like-minded and driven students. I'm also excited about the chance to connect with Bond alumni who can provide valuable insights and guidance in my chosen field.

  • Zoe O’Sullivan

    Conference Management Member

The most valuable aspect of the ISP is the meaningful connections I’ve formed with fellow like-minded students in my final year at Bond while also having the unparalleled opportunity for academic, professional, and personal development through international travel and cross-cultural study opportunities.

  • Lilika Yamada

    Under Secretary General (Global Communications)

It’s an honour to be part of the ISP, where I gain valuable theoretical knowledge from Assistant Professor Dinnen and also professionals in the diplomatic field through Zoom calls, dinners, and gifted books. This program uniquely combines theory with hands-on experience, as we are tasked with organising and chairing the BUHMUN 2025 Conference and are soon participating in a conference in Japan!

  • Erika Carroll

    Global Communications Member

My favourite part of the ISP program is working alongside and being inspired by dedicated and like-minded peers!

  • Sophie Healy

    Global Communications Member

I love working alongside likeminded peers who have an interest in the international sphere, whereby together we can bridge the gap between theory and practice.

  • Sanne Glad

    Global Communications Member

My favourite part of ISP is the way we are connecting theoretical frameworks with practical experience while getting unique opportunities to grow meaningful connections with like-minded individuals and inspiring professionals.

  • Ella Kirk

    Under Secretary General (Political Affairs)

My favourite part of ISP is applying the extensive training we undertake to international contexts, meeting fantastic, like-minded people from all corners of the world and collaborating with them to produce meaningful outcomes.

  • Tess Cann

    Political Affairs Member

ISP has been an amazing experience that’s deepened my understanding of how international diplomacy operates at the highest level, giving me valuable historical insights, practical skills, and real-world perspectives.

  • Charlotte Squire

    Political Affairs Member

My favourite aspect of ISP is having the opportunity to apply the knowledge we learn in the program to create an engaging experience for the BUHMUN delegates. It is a very hands-on experience and has instilled in me a deeper appreciation for the preparation that goes into an international summit.

Olivia Rankine

I came to BUHMUN as a 16-year-old in Year 11, with very little understanding of the way the world worked, how the U.N worked, knowing nothing about Model United Nations and very little about International Affairs. So, BUHMUN was the first opportunity for me to really get an understanding of my position in the world, and it ended up being a trajectory for me to a career as a global citizen.

BUHMUN is an opportunity for students to use the theory they've learnt in the classroom and implement it in practical skills in a way that employers are ultimately looking for. It sets students up for an easy transition into university and, ultimately, into a career. I would really encourage any high school student that's considering doing BUHMUN to jump right in and have a go.
